9 May 2018

GS1(MAURITIUS) LTD collaborated with the Economic Development Board to deliver a presentation on 'The Importance of GS1 Barcodes for Exports' to a group of 20 entrepreneurs participating in the EM GO Export Programme on 9 May 2018.

During the presentation, Miss Fazlee Dhuny of GS1(MAURITIUS) LTD explained the role of GS1 in international trade and border regulatory procedures.  She emphasized on the importance of adopting GS1 Barcodes and standards when exporting and dealing with key stakeholders namely freight forwarders, customs and agents in the exporting countries.

She also apprised participants that GS1 standards are increasingly being adopted by international institutions and commissions.. For instance, the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN) has designated the GS1 Serial Shipping Container Code (SSCC) to uniquely identify parcels and enable interoperability between all parties in the parcel delivery network.

During the presentation, participants were further explained the various benefits of adopting GS1 Barcodes versus proprietary barcodes namely exporting without any hassle, endless opportunities with one prefix, efficiency, safety and security.  Miss Dhuny also emphasised how GS1 Barcodes and standards support tracking and tracing, traceability as well as counterfeit surveillance and product recall.
